Chiropody? Podiatry?
What's the difference?
There is sometimes confusion between the terms chiropodist and podiatrist. Simply, chiropody is an increasingly old-fashioned term for
the practice of modern podiatry. A podiatrist can covers all aspects
of chiropody (treating corns, calluses, verrucae, etc.) as well as
diagnosing and treating other disorders of the foot, ankle and leg.
Are podiatrists registered?
By law, anyone advertising as a chiropodist or podiatrist
must be registered with the Health Professions Council, the
regulatory body set up to protect the public.
My registration number is CH26381.
You can check whether your chiropodist/podiatrist is registered
with the HPC at www.hpcheck.org.
